Pineapples Overview
Pineapple is the name for an edible tropical fruit which is part of the Bromeliaceae family. It is native to Paraguay and the Southern part of Brazil, the countries in which it can be sourced from can be seen on the map. Interestingly Pineapples are one of the most commercially imported fruits that carry out CAM Photosynthesis.
The pineapple is an herbaceous perennial plant which usually grows to about 1/1.5metres. The pineapple is a multiple fruit; multiple, helically arranged flowers along the axis each produce a fleshy fruit that becomes pressed against the fruits of adjacent flowers forming what appears to be a single fruit. Pineapples are a good source of Vitamin C and Vitamin B1.
