Melons Overview

Melon is the name given to various member of the Curcurbitacea family with flesh fruit. Melon can refer to both the plant and the fruit which is a false berry, meaning that it is an accessory fruit found in certain plant species with and inferior ovary distinguishing it from a true berry. Many different cultivators of melons have been produced, in particular muskmelons (cantaloupe and honeydew being two of them). The plant grows as a vine and although melon is a fruit some varieties are known to be considered as culinary vegetables.
